Hello Nubians,

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a beautiful New Years Eve with your family and loved ones. Welcoming 2017 is exciting! 2016 was very strange for almost everyone I know so it's nice to feel a sense of pressing the refresh button.

I find that everyone gets obsessed with making resolutions but many times they are unrealistic and you may end up disappointing yourself which isn't fair. This year I decided to make a doodle list of '2017 Intentions' because they are all things I'm aiming to do throughout the year. I aspire to find enough time and balance to do enough of each thing but one thing I'm certain of is I will get around to all of them. This little doodle brings me peace.

Hey Nubians,

Be True To You.

I've always had such love for fashion and individual style. Though I've always enjoyed wearing a nice pair of heels, I find myself being... well... more myself in casual attire which I find ways to dress up. I love a pair of dope sneakers too!

I think when a girl tries too hard to look 'sexy' by dressing a certain way it takes away from her natural fierce essence if that makes any sense. People are so much more beautiful than they give themselves credit for without having to try that hard. Not to say there's anything wrong with trying to be sexy, I do it all the time ha ha but there's no need to torture yourself over your appearance or let it ruin your life.

Don't let insecurities ruin your life. BE TRUE TO YOU. In a world full of intense marketing and style bloggers like myself... it's hard to stay unique sometimes. We've all been there. Sometimes I think people are starting to look more and more alike everyday and it's totally freaky/scary because the truth is... they look nothing alike! It's like clones roaming around. Certain hair and makeup is making people look more and more  alike. I see 50 girls a day online that look like Kim Kardashian and it's baffling to me. It's totally acceptable to admire individuals and to even take bits and pieces from their style... we all have idols. To straight up try to BE them is just weird to me. Love yourself. There's only one you. Being comfortable in your own skin is something a lot of us struggle with our whole lives. If you feel comfortable in your own skin, you're blessed. Make it a mission to learn more about yourself everyday... I'm still learning and probably will never stop because I'm quite complicated.

Anyway, on to the fashion segment, I like to dress up my casual looks by styling my hair a bit more, showy earrings, sunglasses, and most of all... confidence. POW!

I had these cute pair of slacks I picked up from Patty's Closet and they're a great item you can dress up or down. I decided to dress them down a bit with a pair of brown Nike Hyperdunks and a cute crop top from H&M.

I also wore hoop earrings and some cute cat eyed sunglasses I picked up from a street vendor. It was a good outfit to run around in and get some errands done in.

One of my stops that day was Menchie's at Downtown Summerlin. They have super yummy frozen yogurt.

I also got my little baby Leo handwashed. It was long overdue. I call my car Leo because he reminds me of a ninja turtle.

What have you been up to lately? How do you remind yourself to Be True To You?

Cheers my dears!

Hey Nubians,

Everyday should be a day that you're motivated, but there's something about the beginning of the week that makes you feel like being turbo charged right? It's important to constantly stay inspired and be happy so we can keep moving forward.

Life gets busy and crazy but we still must fight for what we want.

Here's some motivation to start your week below.

"Find a job you like and you will add five days to every week." – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

"As long as you’ve got passion, faith and are willing to work hard, you can do anything and have anything you want in this world." – Unknown

"The more I want to get something done, the less I call it work." – Richard Bach

"This is the real secret of life – to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play." – Alan Wilson Watt

"You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you." – Maya Angelou

"If your ship doesn’t come in, swim out to meet it!" – Jonathan Winters

Cheers!

Hi Nubians,

Everyone deserves a nice start to their week. We can live such stressful lives sometimes that it becomes easy to lose your priorities and forget what's important. Whether you're passionate about makeup, style, fashion, art, anything beautiful and creative, make sure you're making enough time for it in your life. Stay happy and positive my friends.

Below I've gathered a few quotes to kickstart your week. I hope they help you get on track and bring a smile to your face.

Cheers!

Hello Nubians,

I'd like to introduce a new segment on my site "Monday Muse". I will post about woman who inspire me and occasionally men (I get very inspired by menswear) and write some quick facts about them, a few quotes, their style, and let you know why they inspire me.

I thought I'd kick off the segment with someone I really admire...

Name - Lucille Désirée Ball.
D.O.B - August 6, 1911.
Occupation - Actress, comedian, model, film executive.
Died - April 26, 1989 (aged 77)

My Favorite Lucille Ball Quotes

"One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn't pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself."

"Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world."

"Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."

"Heaven, no. I was shy for several years in my early days in Hollywood until I figured out that no one really gave a damn if I was shy or not, and I got over my shyness."

"The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age."

Lucille Ball which most may know from her hit TV show "I Love Lucy" was a very, very, inspiring women. Determined to become an actress she dropped out of High School at age 15 and enrolled in a drama school in New York City... talk about knowing what you want right?!

In 1950 Lucy and her husband Desi Arnez (which sadly they eventually divorced) started a new venture with  Desilu Productions. It started as a radio shoe and in October 1951 they started a television comedy series, I Love Lucy. The show starred the two of them and it was a comedy based around their real lives as a couple. The show was a hit for 6 years.

Anyway, a couple of reasons I personally love Lucy is because watching her show and reading about her I could tell she was a total force to be reckoned with. I remember reading a quote where she said "How I Love Lucy was born? We decided that instead of divorce lawyers profiting from our mistakes, we'd profit from them." To me that demonstrates a woman who can take an utterly terrible situation and not let it define her... basically she was able to flip the switch at all times.

Lucy was also a pioneer, I believe she was the first woman to own her very own film studio. A lot of people believed Lucille Ball would never make it as an actress but she didn't let anything stop her. She also inspired countless amounts of women to pursue comedy at a time when it wasn't very common and till this day. Determined, driven and the type of inspiration and woman to look up to that young girls need today. Beautiful in and out.

Lucy's Style
I don't have much to say about Lucy's style because these photos speak for themselves. She was a classy lady and a total fox. She sported a lot of 1950s glam and knew how to work it. She wore a lot of dresses with peplums and polkadots, pillbox hats, large belts that cinched the waist and glamorous dresses.

Her hair always looked fabulous and she always sported red lips (Lucy was a cover girl for Max Factor in the 30s and 40s)

Funny, beautiful and didn't put up with crap from anyone... WHAT A STAR.

Oh and P.S. Who could forget her signature fire red hair.

Hello Nubians,

Life gets HARD sometimes. We've all felt it and it's hard to get motivated. I know I've been through many slumps myself and it can be extremely to pick yourself up and be happy sometimes. But hapiness is SooOoooO important. Life is way too short and days, weeks, years... They all just fly by.

I try to implement these 4 steps into my life as often as possible and I wanted to pass them on to you because if you make them part of your lifestyle, I think you can become a more productive, content and happy person.

1) Stop Procrastinating and Go After Your Goals.

You can spend hours procrastinating when it truly only takes you 2 minutes to start whatever you have to do. If you have a goal go for it! Turn off the TV, stop looking for excuses to do something else and just START WHAT YOU NEED TO DO. It doesn't necessarily mean you always have to finish, but people truly underestimate the power of just starting! It's a powerful thing! Once you start you're closer to what you need to finish.

2) Try Something New.

Life is too short to not Try Something New. Within the last few years, some things I did were skydive and swim with dolphins... Not saying that everything you have to do must be extreme but you get the point. Think of something cool to do like a dance classes or an open mic poetry. Push your limits and do something a little out of the ordinary. The experience will be rewarding.

3) Be Healthy and Eat Right.

Go to the gym regularly or work out at home. Also, cut back on the junk food and eat more lean food and add some vegetables. It's proven that people who are healthier feel better naturally. Get enough sunshine, do some yoga. Be active!

4) Make more time for YOU.

This one could tie in a little bit with #2, but when I say time for YOU I mean make sure you're sleeping right, read a book, listen to music, go out with your friends and have a coffee or a drink, go on dates, watch a movie, make time for you to do regular everyday things. If you feel like you're just work-work-working all the time, life is going to start feeling miserable. As long as you're still productive for a good amount of your day, there should be no problem to make a little time for YOU.

I hope these steps work out a bit for you. Take it a day at a time. Try to practice these into your lifestyle daily and I promise you will start feeling like a better you before you know it.
