Hey Nubians,

Add A Little Sass To Your Style.

Gorgeous and full of attitude, I think I was channeling my inner Cry-Baby's Wanda Woodward with this fashion outfit. It isn't exactly a pinup or rockabilly outfit, but I think I gave it a bit of a modern twist and mixed the look more with every day wear like my tee for example. You also have to consider the winged eye liner and kick ass faux leather jacket I'm rocking which ties back to my Wanda Woodward reference. I love encouraging fun fashion and the use of color therapy. A little bit of sassiness on top of everything doesn't hurt either.

Hello My Beautiful Nubians,

“Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy.” - Anne Frank

I'd love to see more beautiful women wearing head scarves... you know, in the form where it almost looks like a hoodie. This trend was pretty popular anywhere from the 1950s-1970's. The greats in my book such as Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe and more used to were their scarves like this.

I wish this trend was seen around more, especially now for Spring fashion. It's great to block the sun and it looks very elegant. ALSO, this trend can also MAKE AN OUTFIT. There are so many bold colorful scarves and scarves with fascinating prints and patterns on them... really it could turn into a gorgeous thing.

A fun retro look! Seen a lot on the pinup scene too. Below you'll see I wore my Wonder Woman gla.MAR.ous head wrap in this fashion. I plan to buy a bunch of cute scarves and do it more often.

Of course I had to make my look super colorful and animated because that's just simply who I am. Although I love my all black outfits here and there, I believe fashion should be fun and colorful!

What do you think about the scarves? Is it something you're into?

Hey Nubians,

Oh Glorious Monday!

I adore this cute and flirty outfit I put together. I often don't understand why people are so afraid to mix prints in their looks. I think it worked out great for me and I do it all the time.

I wanted to do something cute and flirty so the ruffled skirt = perfection. I love the layering of the ruffles and the tulle. My look has a bit of a 1950's pinup flare but with my own personal style mixed in which is colorful and funky.

The Jelly shoes are totally taking it back to the 90s. Such a big trend that has made it's way back.

Below you'll see a nice and crisp detail short of the clothing. If you pay close attention my floral top compliments the floral socks I'm wearing under my shoes. Details are always important my dears.

Wearing: gla.MAR.ous hair wrap, Forever 21 top, Go Jane shoes, Kensie earrings.

You can't actually see it here but my gla.MAR.ous hair wrap has a Cartoon Network Adventure Time print on it! So much fun!

Hey Nubians, This was my first year attending Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend at The Orleans Hotel and Casino and I'm not going to lie, it can be a culture shock for anyone. I don't mean that in a bad way at all however, it's definitely in a good way. It's great to embrace other peoples lifestyles and to explore such a beautiful and welcoming culture with so many nice people. I felt as though it took me back to a simpler, happier time when other men and women expressed each others creativity more freely and without so much fear. I can't remember the last time I saw so many smiles in one room. And the Fashion...

Let's just say these days sometimes fashion can be disappointing. Don't get me wrong, there's tons of great trends going on now-a-days too but I feel as though there's not as much glamour. In Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend you will see all sorts of outfits ranging from the 1920's probably till around the 1960's mainly. Women embraced their silhouette more and also their body type no matter if it's thick or thin. The prints on the dresses were divine! The embellishments, circle skirts, play suits, hair flowers, makeup, hair color, oh my goodness! There was just so much beauty. Not to mention some of the hair styles were seriously TO DIE FOR. Pin curls, bumper bangs and all sorts of craziness that I don't even know the names of. Definitely made me want to step up my hair game a bit.

I think the only thing I would change for next year if I decide to go is that I would make sure I hit up more of the main events. I didn't get to see the Jiving Competition which I heard is lovely and a pretty big deal and I didn't listen to much of the live bands either (they have so many). They also have jiving classes which I didn't take and may be fun to do next time. Anyway, enjoy some of these photos below which I pulled off my phone. I may be trying to update this post later on.

I hung out with my friend Jasmin and Sunny the whole time. This photo is from a get together Jasmin had at her house the first night. I met so many lovely people I hope to keep in touch with.

This is what I wore my first day. I kept it pretty simple. I don't indulge in the pinup and rockabilly scene as much as some of the people at Viva Las Vegas do... for some of them it's their daily lifestyle. I like to put a touch in my outfits every-so-often that may be traced back to these times. For me it serves more as an inspiration for fashion, hair, and a enticing lifestyle.

This day I felt like I belonged on an island somewhere. I was obviously feeling the color purple this day. I did my hair and makeup and my friend Jasmin through me in this dress. It's a marvelous dress with a jaw dropping colors and a beautiful flower print (I believe it's one of the many she owns from Pinup Girl).

Jasmin and Myself.
Sunny, Jasmin and Myself.

Here's a short clip from a Burlesque Bingo game I went to, To be frank it wasn't much of a bingo game at all (and I know because I play Bingo) but I'm pretty sure it's more for entertainment purposes. It was cool to see the girls doing their thing. So much talent.

Tanto talento.

On the right hand side you'll see me in the blue wearing Vintage blue high waisted pants that used to belong to my mother and a thrifted shirt my dad purchased for me. In this photo I'm with my friend Vanessa who flew in from New York to experience Viva. Isn't she such a babe?

Here are some of my favorite cars from the Car Show. They were really cool to look at... I wish I could own one of these bad boys.

They had a lot of vendors outside too. One of my only complaints I have, I guess from someone who finds vintage at thrift shops... Is I thought some of the stuff I saw was very much over priced. I guess this happens a lot sometimes at these types of events. Many of us know where to get vintage at a steal so it's hard to pay so much for it when you know you can get it somewhere else for way less.

This last photo I pulled off my friend Sunny's instagram. I thought it was really, REALLY beautiful and captured a significant message. No matter what country you're from or what skin tone you are, no matter how thick or think you are, no matter how tall or short you are... YOU ARE ARE STUNNING. I love the diversity in this community and it's definitely something that should be channeled more everywhere.

With that my dear friends I'm signing out. If you have any questions or comments make sure to drop a comment.

Hello Nubians,

I wanted to share a few photos I instagram'ed within the last few days. I adore fashion, style and looks from the 1950s and 60s. In my opinion back in those days, ladies carried themselves with so much more glamour and class. The hair was better, the dresses were prettier, waists were always cinched and petite, and there was also so much cute shoes! Think about Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Bettie Paige, Brigitte Bardot, Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe and some much more! These ladies = TOTAL BETTIES.

I personally am a fan of mixing the old with the new. There are a lot of current trends that could use a sprinkle of the 1950's/60's on top to make a fun new outfit or look.

Below you'll see some photos of me in the fitting room. The photos are from a class my friend Jasmin (Vintage Vandal) taught about Retro Style and Beauty at Amberjoy's Vintage Closet, a cute shop in downtown Las Vegas. I was a model is Jasmin's class. She demonstrated a few different hairstyles on me such as pincurls, gibson rolls, victory rolls, and showed her students how to do a bumper bang using a foam foundation and much, much more. I'll keep you posted on when she does a recap on the class, it was great.

So much love for polka dots. This dress was a perfect fit.

Fancy tight curls.

Cute pic of my hair in foam rollers.

Love a nice polo shirt with a ravishing circle skirt. The print on the skirt was beautiful.

What's your favorite look or hairstyle from the 1950s or 60s?

Hello Nubians,

Aren't themed parties mega fun?! A few weeks ago my friend Jasmin (@VintageVandal) invited me to "Gollo's Annual Cholo Party" at Beauty Bar in Las Vegas. It was a crazy fun experience. Everyone goes dressed in Cholo/Chola style which through the years has been mainly plaids, baggy pants, stripes, bandanas, converse sneakers, red lip stick with black liner for the ladies, oversized earrings and more.

People were getting into the theme, mingling and having a great time. Gollo is of Mexican descent and from what I've heard he enjoys throwing the party every year to celebrate and embrace his culture and his birthday with his friends at the same time. Sounds like a double win to me.

Before we headed out to beauty bar I passed by my friend Jasmin's house and she helped me get ready. I wore a classic Elvis mugshot tee with boot cut Levis denim and Jordan sneakers. Jasmin gave me these amazing bumper bangs which are popular in the pinup community and tied a red bandana in my hair. Red lips and some bamboo styled bangles with a machine gun and boom! I was ready to go with my chola inspired look and strut my stuff.

Jasmin did an amazing job giving herself a gangsta Disney princess tattoo sleeve with an Avon eyeliner! I was in awe of her ability to do it so quickly. I couldn't believe she was able to do all of that with an eye-liner and it didn't come off all night... kudos Avon.

Chola gals just hanging out.

Myself and Jaz.

After I was done at Beauty Bar I headed to Gold Spike downtown to play some pool, bean bag toss, and grab a bite to eat. They had a bunch of rad hot sauce bottles. This alien AREA 51 one was my favorite.

That's all folks! Looking forward to doing this again and enjoying more events in Downtown Vegas.

P.S. If you want to see more awesome photo, check out this great album of the party by Vegas Torch HERE.

Hello Nubians,

"Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step." -Martin Luther King, Jr.

As some of you may know, I'm living in the West Coast for a while in Las Vegas. It was a fun move and I'm excited for the new business ventures and possibilities that have been coming my way. I was born and raised in NY and I think a big mistake people make in their lives is getting too comfortable! Moving could be scary but sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.

The last few days besides getting work done, I've been walking around and getting to know the town a bit.

I wanted to be comfortable but look cute (duh). Above I'm wearing a pair of Levi Jeans paired with cute little bow flats from Express clothing. I picked the top up at a random boutique and I don't recall the name right now but how rad is it?! I have a thing for lion, tigers, and cheetahs on clothing, the fact that it's colorful makes me enjoy it even more.

I styled my hair in a fancy little side braid because it's hot as hell out here and it's easy to put together... there's a lot of elegance in a braid.

I was starving the other day and bumped into Earl of Sandwich which I used to love to eat in connecticut. I'm not sure what I enjoy more, the sandwich or the golden wrapper. Presentation is everything.

I received this girl in the mail a few days ago. Love this Mint Julep Lip Butter by the Soap and Paper Factory. When you open it up there's a little mirror inside. It makes my lips feel so soft and moisturized so it def comes in handy with the heat here. A bonus to the lip butter is that I love the packaging as well! I mean seriously gals, How cute is it?!

Weakling for Froyo.

Above is an outfit I wore on a weekend out. It's a very... Sweet Valley Weekend inspired look.
Varsity Jacket from this awesome little rockabilly store called ENZ NYC in St. Marks, Jeans for American Apparel, top and shoes from Forever 21.

So what's new in everyones life? Any fashion trends that you're excited about? Taking any leaps of faith soon?
